How can I do DYI home improvement in my kitchen with a hot metal pipe running down the wall?

I have a pipe in my kitchen that leads to a second floor radiator…I would love to put a cabinet on that wall, but the pipe is dead center…can it be insulated and worked around? I really have no idea what to do with it, it gets really hot in the winter.
